My life extends past library and information science to service to the greater New York City area community. I take pride in the opportunities for personal and professional development these volunteer jobs have given me.

Museum of Modern Art
I was honored to join this institution's 300-strong volunteer corps in November 2004 for the Museum's 75th anniversary and reopening after a 2 year renovation.  As a Membership Desk Volunteer, and later Information Desk Volunteer, I am the face of MoMA. I direct patrons to works of art and museum amenities, promote programs and services, and use my knowledge of the New York City art world to enhance the art experience for tourists and locals alike.  It was my work on these desks - answering qustions, searching for works of art to meet a user need (often a school assignment), following up with patrons if I saw them again in the museum - that gave me skills necessary for later work in reference services.  

York College of Pennsylvania New York City Metro Area Alumni Chapter
I have been active in my undergraduate school's alumni chapter since graduation in 2000 and on the Executive Board since 2006.  As part of the Board, I plan events for our alumni in the greater New York City area (including the five boroughs, north and central New Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut, and the northern New York City suburbs), and coordinate outreach with those alumni.  I have also served as a Career Development Panelist for the annual Networking Reception for current juniors and seniors, providing unique insight into the life of an alum who is both student and working professional.
