LIS 697 - Museum and Library Education Outreach

Looking In: Robert Frank's The Americans

This was the capstone project for the course, a four-part educational experience using the Metropolitan Museum of Art's "Looking In: Robert Frank's The Americans" for an upper elementary to middle school (4th - 7th grade) class.  It incorporated a pre-site activity using family photographs, a site visit and corresponding bingo game, and a post-site assignment in creating a personal online portfolio with photographs in the spirit of Frank's groundbreaking work.  The final component was an in-class review of the student photographs. Groupwork played a strong role in all the activities, and the exercises fulfilled all four New York State Learning Standards for the Arts.

Comments from Instructor Jason Baumann:
"This is a perfect idea for an outreach program around a photography exhibition.  Your understanding and use of the learning standards is completely on point.  You can plainly see how the educational aims structure the activities.  Your questions for students are well-phrased and appropriately aimed to your target audience.  This is educational and obviously a lot of fun.  Your work this past semester was smart, professional and sincere."
